Montreux in the 19th Century
As a result of the Mediation Act of 1803, the Vaud region becomes one of the sovereign states of the Confederation. With navigation and the emergence of the railway in 1861, Montreux, up until then made up of small villages, transforms into a vast agglomeration and sees a sharp increase in its number of inhabitants.
