Tourism in Montreux
Montreux and the birth of the first hotels
Whilst in 1830, tourists stayed in guest houses, in 1835 they were able to stay in the first two hotels which appeared in Montreux, the Pension Richelieu, currently the Royal Plaza, and the Pension Visinand. Then, in 1837, Montreux offered to its guests the famous Hôtel du Cygne. From this time onwards, the number of hotels increased rapidly and went from 8 in 1850 to 85 in 1912.top of the page
